These guys came out of the youth group at First Assembly of God in Bossier City, Louisiana in the late 1990s where they were the primary praise/worship band for the youth group.
ReplyDeleteThere is extremely little about these guys online. I only know them because I attended that youth group briefly while they were there.
Though the band was called "The Diezman Trio", there was never anyone named Diezman in the band. They named it as a tribute to another member of the youth group who (if I'm recalling correctly) died unexpectedly.
Though I knew the guys, we weren't very close and as it has been nearly 30 years since I've seen them I'm struggling to remember names.
I remember the drummer's name was Paul Fanguy. He was my teenage idol during that period because I was also an aspiring drummer at the time. His style drew heavily from progressive metal drumming a la Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater.
The guitarist was named David ... Smith? (something plain, as I recall, but I could be totally off.) He was also somewhat metal inspired, but could play anything, really. I got the chance to play with him once when our guitarist (of course I was in a band, lol) had a scheduling conflict with one of our shows and we needed a fill-in. Consummate professional, though a bit demanding (I mean, he was WAY above our skill level, but put up with us anyway.)
As for the bassist/lead singer, I am drawing a complete blank. I believe he was the oldest. I remember he had a wife and young child. His style drew heavily from Les Claypool from Primus, as is pretty clear on the demo.
As far as I know none of them ever went on to do anything much in music after Diezman. I know Paul did some session work in Dallas for a while, but I haven't been able to find anything beyond the early 2000s.
One fun fact I'll leave you with. The song "Jake and the Nader" was about the youth pastor's young son Jake who, after a tornado came through the area, thought it was a monster and asked his dad if the "Nader" was coming back to get them. (or something to that effect)
I'm sorry I don't have all the information you wanted, but I hope this helps fill in some of it.
Thank you for the info..
DeleteUpon further reflection, I think the guitarists name was David Combs.
