Albrecht & Roley - S/T (1975)

Genre: Jesus Music Era

Saw a copy of this one in Goldmine collector's magazine once where the dealer described it as having a "good stoned feel". Huh? Well, I don't think I woulda used quite the same words, but at least they adequately suggested that this ain't no sappy Christian radio thingy. Albrecht & Roley is Mike Albrecht and Scottt Roley - the latter's name graces pert near every album on this tiny label. Actually Alan Moore is in here, too, playing bass and banjo on several songs. This is light acoustic folk. Picture an un-orchestrated Jim Croce or perhaps a demo tape by America and you'll get the idea. Albrecht and Roley's acoustic guitars complement each other well giving a nice basement sound that's hard not to like. Perhaps that "stoned feel" comment was inspired by more basement sounding electric cuts like 'Frieze' or the watery psych-ish phase-shifted guitars on 'The Good Life'. Re-issued on Hartsong in the late 70's with a different cover. (Ken Scott - Archivist)

  1. Here's some corrections for this listing.
Both the 1st and 3rd LP had two releases,
The 1st LP listed is their 1st from 1975 and it got released with 2 different covers tho the 2nd cover listed here isn't the 2nd one it's the 1st again with just a different shade of blue probably from the photo of it or the scan.
The 2nd cover is completely different tho the LP (songs) are exactly the same.

The 2nd set of tracks listed here is actually from their 3rd LP release from 1978 and to add to the confusion the one posted here is the 12 song version. The common one is the 10 song version. Each version has songs the other one doesn't.
I assume this 12 song version is also titled Starlighter even tho it doesn't have the track
    'Song of the Starlighter'

Here's a text file for this 2nd set of songs listed in this post.

ALBRECHT, ROLEY AND MOORE - Starlighter 1978 (12 song release)

Starlighter follows in the soft string-orchestrated light-rock style of Gently Flowing Feeling. Melodic pop-edged song-writing, richly arranged around 12-string acoustic guitar,
keyboards and the trio’s harmonies. Brisk easy-going songs such as ‘Questioning Heart’ and ‘Eyes On The Clouds’ alternate with ballads like the Seals & Crofts-ish ‘Holiday Son’. and the country rocker ‘Rise Complete My Maiden’. and ‘Carry It On’. ' Short-lived label with ties to Sparrow. (Ken Scott – The Archivist).
